DR DAVID CHOY

 

Dr David Choy is a Neurosurgeon. He graduated from NUS in 1997 and subsequently obtained his MRCS (Edin) and M Med (Surgery). In 2006, he was awarded the HMDP Fellowship Award and spent 2 years of training with the Neurosurgery Department in Addenbrookes Hospital, UK, headed by Professor John Pickard. Following his success at the UK Intercollegiate Examinations for Neurosurgery in 2009, he returned to work at NUH as a consultant neurosurgeon and divisional research director for Neurosurgery.

 

Dr Choy has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and is also an invited lecturer for the Advanced Nursing Diploma program at Nanyang Polytechnic as well as Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He was the NUH Surgery Convenor for the Final Professional Examination for the degrees of MBBS in 2010, and also an examiner for the Final MBBS Examinations in March 2011.

 

Dr Choy has expertise to manage a wide variety of neurooncologic and neurovascular pathologies. He also performs microsurgical cerebral revascularization procedures for stroke patients. He has a keen interest in the use of advanced techniques of minimally invasive spine surgery in the treatment of spine tumours, degenerative as well as trauma related spine problems. Dr Choy provides pediatrics neurosurgical services and manages complex skull base pathologies. He is also trained in stereotactic radiosurgery such as using Gamma knife surgery for cerebral metastasis, vascular malformations and trigeminal neuralgias. Minimal access neurosurgery using endoscopes and needloscopic sympathectomy for palmar hyperhidrosis are also within the repertoire of procedures which he performs.
